Starting in 2010, San Carlos AYSO is now offering an EXTRA program. EXTRA is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities and to enhance each player's experience and individual growth through the game of soccer while retaining the spirit and organization of AYSO.

EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program. Even though EXTRA will provide a level of competition comparable to or exceeding that of many competitive leagues, it will still operate by the AYSO philosophies.

This means that everyone on the team will play at least half a game, and no one will play a full game without everyone playing at least 3 quarters. We will focus on positive coaching and good sportsmanship, and we will have open tryouts so everyone has an equal chance to make an EXTRA team.

What is EXTRA?

San Carlos AYSO will form one EXTRA team in each of the following age groups: U10B, U10G, U12B, U12G, U14B, and U14G.

Players selected will play on these teams in addition to their regular AYSO team.

When and where will EXTRA Games be held?

EXTRA games will be held on Sundays, so as not to conflict with normal AYSO games. Normally, half will be held in San Carlos, and the other half will be held in neighboring cities. This year, due to the Highland Park closure, most if not all U12-U14 games will be held in other cities.

When will the EXTRA Season run?

6 games will be played starting September 26th and finishing October 31st.

Should my child tryout?

Extra tryouts will be held on Sunday, September 12th (the day after opening day). More information on the time of tryouts will be provided by your coordinator. If your child is one of the top 2-3 players on his or her team, loves soccer, and can make Sunday games, then you should encourage them to tryout. If you are uncertain, please talk to your child’s coach.

What will EXTRA cost?

We are not planning to charge an additional fee for EXTRA this year. Your child will be provided with an EXTRA uniform, but will be expected to provide it back in good condition at the end of the season.
