SILENT SATURDAY, SEPT 20
San Carlos AYSO has elected to participate with many other Regions in observing Silent Saturday this coming Saturday, September 20th. We are asking all of you to join with us by introducing the idea of Silent Saturday to your coaches and parents this week during practice.
In observing Silent Saturday, we ask that no one other than the referee and the players talk during the game. Coaches are of course welcome to talk and instruct prior to, at half time and following the match, and during substitution breaks (quarters).
Parents and spectators are asked to support the players by clapping, but refrain from providing instructions and comments for the duration of the game.
1. To give players a chance to trust their skills and instincts without sideline input, and without concern that their mistakes will be corrected from the sidelines during a match environment.
2. To foster leadership skills among the individual players as they have the unique opportunity of giving instruction on the field.
3. To foster a sense of true teamwork as the players must learn to rely upon one another and communicate with each other accordingly.
4. To remind coaches, parents, and players that training, not match time is the best time for instruction. Matches are the showcases for learning.
5. To remind everyone that AYSO soccer is for the kids - for their playing, learning and enjoyment.
