Required Training for Coaches
NOTE: ALL Coaches must be registered volunteers for the current year. This is an annual requirement.
Safe Haven Course: All AYSO volunteers must take the Safe Haven certification course. All seasoned volunteers are asked to take a refresher online Safe Haven course periodically.
Concussion Awareness: All AYSO volunteers in CA must take the Concussion Awareness course.
Coach training requirements: All head coaches and assistant coaches must be trained at the age level they are coaching.
5U and 6U coaches must be trained at the 6U Coach level
7U and 8U coaches must be trained at the 8U Coach level
10U coaches must be trained at the 10U Coach level
12U coaches must be trained at the 12U Coach level
14U coaches must be trained at the Intermediate Coach level
16U and 19U coaches must be trained at the Advanced Coach level
There is no prerequisite for taking either the 6U or 8U or 10U Coach classes. Take whichever one matches the age division you plan to coach, since the training is tailored to the age level.
Required prerequisites for taking Intermediate Coach, Advanced Coach, and National Coach courses: For the Intermediate Coach course, candidates must be certified as the 12U Coach level; for the Advanced Coach course, candidates must be certified as an Intermediate Coach; National Coach course candidates must be certified as an Advanced Coach.
Annual general coach meeting: The coaches attend the volunteer kick off meeting and the division coordinators will be having more coordinations meeting.
